Message from Miranda

Hello everyone!

This is XO Jessica wanting to clear some things up before people go imagining stories.

Some people have expressed concern about our money management skills and feel we are trying to con people out of their hard earned money.

Let me clarify one very important thing. We did not spend all our money “at” Comic Con. To my knowledge, the only thing we bought at Comic-Con was a “Mass Effect: Redemption” comic book ($15), and we ended up getting some free ones from Dark Horse Comics later anyway, oops! Our money was spent making these costumes that everyone has enjoyed so much… and when we were making them, we had no idea our group would become popular. Holly sent in the PAX panel information long before that happened just as a “let’s see if they’ll accept this!”

The costumes you see in the youtube videos cost thousands of dollars. Hell, the reporter dress alone cost several hundred. We all dipped into our savings, and still are (my Miranda costume for PAX has to come from somewhere!).

The way we see that little “donation” box on the left hand corner is this: Holly could be selling ad space on her blog and youtube. Many people do that and no one thinks that is begging. The way we are approaching it is more like that crazy person in the subway who is seriously playing his guitar with passion. If you feel so inclined, throw a dollar into his guitar case. If not, walk away and enjoy the music. We also have tangible things for sale on Etsy and will add more as we can.

We really appreciate the emails, comments, and awesomeness that has come from the people we have met online and out in public. But we’re a bunch of 20somethings that decided to do something really big and if we want to keep sharing our passion, someone either needs to give us a Business 101 lesson, get us better jobs, or put a dollar into our proverbial guitar case.

For those of you who have donated or bought Tali Bands…. I am giving you guys a look of disbelief and thinking this would make a really good Christmas special if it was at all relevant. We will not forget you, and I will make sure we thank you some way!

Cheers,
Jessica

In a way you all are already thanking us. Keeping the blog and vid updates going. It is rather sad that there are people out there thinking you're making a cash grab outa the fame you've all obtained.

To those that are thinking they're making cash outa this, do you really think all the materials used are free?! Sides, as was said, if don't want to donate, Don't.

Just keep smiling all you at Crabcat, keep up the amazing work! Crafting skills like those shown are a rare sight. And those of us that want to support the awesome talent will donate what we can to help keep ya going!

Kinda bummed they locked your post on the PA Boards BUT, it wasn't deleted, so people least know where to go to donate.

As I said before, haters gonna hate, and you're going to rise above all. There is no shame in asking for money. Even if you don't have a cause. Why should these degenerates judge you because you have a plan (a damn good one) to achieve a goal and would like some help. Pathetic these people are. Har har! Expect a donation from me soon <3

Garrus here. Just finished some calibrations. I would suggest to those who do not understand that the phrase “spent all our money at Comic Con” actually means “invested all available resources purchasing armor and weapons” do some mental calibrations of their own. (Hopefully their calibrations do not take as long as mine.)

P.S. I'll rummage through my sofa to find a few more credit chips to throw your way.

Sorry to hear you guys got lots of static from asking for a donation... You're giving back to all "us" fans with your talent and dedication to your craft. I'll be looking under my Normandy Engineer's console for some forgotten credits to shoot your way. Keep up the great work!

A good thing to do would be giving regular updates on the Bioware Social Site.... and frequenting it often so that people would get to know you. You might get more donations that way. Popping in every two weeks won't cut it. If your fans... then be fanatical and the fanatics will join your cause and "fight for the PAX".

I think it'd be nice to update the community more often on how much money has come in, where you are putting said money specifically, and if you are given extra, what you plan on doing with it.

With that said, good luck, and I hope you guys make it up to PAX.

I want you guys to know how amazing you are and that the people who think you are money grubbing are a very VERY small minority. I will gladly donate to you guys once my next payday and I would LOVE to buy something from your Etsy store a bit more...erm...manly? So when you get that up i'm all in. Until than, expect a donation next week from me as what you guys are doing is simply amazing and the fact you are just NOW asking for donations boggles my mind.

PS: You really should do the ads on Youtube if for nothing else to get a bit more change in your pocket.

Thanks for the amazing vids! You all did an outstanding job on the costumes. Know that all of us at BW's femShep discussion board are rooting for you. Good luck!

Wow. Asking for handouts so you can attend a convention. That's almost embarrassing. If you can't afford a convention, then maybe you shouldn't be going. You guys are good but you're not the only amazing costumers out there and the rest of them seem to get by without begging for money. I'm not sure what makes you guys so special that you think it's ok to do this but more power to you if it works. Personally, I think you guys should learn to budget instead.

You guys did an amazing job. Anyone that wants to hate on you can just... Well I won't say, I don't want to sink to their level.
